Whenever I find a lot of resources for a particular place, I try to add a section to my free resources page. This week – Surrey! There are a few printed registers available on the internet archive for Surrey. I know that the Surrey registers and resources from the Surrey History Centre are currently on FindMyPast and Ancestry, and available to be searched, but sometimes there is a lot to be gained by searching the registers by eye. You can pick up a sense of which families were living in the parish, can collect events for a particular surname and thus discover relatives of the family you are researching, it can give you a sense of the occupations common in the area, or give you a clue that an illness or event has killed a lot of people in a short time.
If you find any interesting Surrey resources, do let me know! The picture above is of Walton Church by George Samuel who died in 1823, and is one of series available on the Lambeth Palace website, and is in the Public domain.
